Tough Times

I haven’t really felt like posting this week. The roommate of a friend of mine killed himself earlier this month, and the aftermath has been hard for everyone involved. It seems like a lot of people really need a career or a sense of purpose to keep themselves going. When those people lose their jobs and can’t find comparable new ones, even if they have enough money to get by on, they just begin to fall apart. They feel worthless and some of them end it all.

I’m afraid to research the suicide statistics for the year. Maybe it’s anecdotal but it seems like people are really starting to come apart under the pressure. As for me, I’m not making as much as I’d like or working as many hours as I’d like, but at least I have enough to pay the rent and go out with friends.

So if you’re reading this and you’re struggling, just try to hang in there, OK? The tough times will pass.

Thanks for the kind words. Sorry for your loss, Hope things are better for you soon.

  • I hardly knew him, but the harm he did in killing himself is bigger than just him – it has affected a lot of people and made their situations harder.

Suicide is one of those subjects which I am usually a bit harsh about. Back in high school, there was someone who offed themselves and got a sudden outpouring of attention. Attention is exactly what teenagers want, which triggered some copy-cat attempts. It was really pathetic.

Suicide is the final, selfish act of a quitter. A permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Anyway, Giantessa I gather that You are in a certain area, geographically, from some hints You made in a previous entry. I live nearby and I’m going up there tomorrow for the “big event” which is going on. If You happen to be there, I’ll be keeping an eye out for very tall Goddesses. ;-)

  • @BattlePuppet – My parents are going, but I’m not.

    Can’t say I blame ya. ;-D

I’ve always avoided the area when something like this was going on, but this time I’m compelled to go.

You said it best in the 2nd comment Giantessa.

Often times the people who make the decision to end their life end up doing so much damage to others they cared about and who cared for them, and it’s really sad to think that if they realized this, it probably would have kept them from taking that action.

My prayers go out to everyone affected by this young man’s decision. Thank you for your strength during this difficult time and wish to echo your statement of “Hang in there.”

And if your thoughts do take you to that place, please take a moment to think not just about your current problems, but also about how deeply your actions will affects others in your life.
